Jurors

Janie Gildow -

is an internationally known, award-winning artist. Her work has been published in The Artist’s Magazine, International Artist, and American Artist Magazine and in more than ten books including The Best of Colored Pencil 2, 3, 4, and 5 and Colored Pencil Explorations. She appears in two DVD workshops from Creative Catalyst Productions: “Colored Pencil, Getting started Right,” and “Colored Pencil, The Light Touch.”

Juror Comments

First, thank you for asking me to judge this show of talent. What fun to view all the art and see the variety of subjects and adaptations of the theme: Treasures.

I am very impressed by the talent displayed by all of the artists. You are all to be commended for your interest in art, your talent, your willingness to share your images, and your confidence in your work. I was also quite impressed by the variety and quality of your work. What a wonderful show!

I’m sure I’m not the first judge to say this (nor will I be the last), but when presented with the monumental task of giving awards, you made my job very difficult. I’ll have to admit that I agonized over many of my decisions because it wasn’t possible to give awards to everyone, and it was difficult selecting the winners because there were so many great pieces.

When I judge art, I consider the following:
Composition—knowledge and correct use of the Principles of Design
Use of the Elements
Proportion, Scale, Foreshortening, Depth
Technique
Knowledge and control of the medium
Creativity

To those of you who did not receive an award, please keep in mind that there were good qualities in every piece entered. Keep working and keep entering.

To those who did receive awards, your work is outstanding and you may be proud of it and of yourselves for such a great display of talent.

I enjoyed being able to give the awards and again I commend each and every one of you for your ability and your dedication.
