Breaking thru barriers:
How does one grow? How can we loosen up our creative minds to be more expressive of our
personal vision. Those are questions I've been asking myself even more intently now that I've returned to
watercolor.
I've found it very freeing to come to grips with why I paint. (I paint for the sheer
joy of putting paint on paper. I love the process. I also enjoy the challenge of design) I think if we can
honestly say that we are painting for ourselves and not the accolades of others, it removes a pressure that
controls and limits us, and probably limits our progress. It removes the need for approval. It removes the
outside pressure to be good. It helps rid us of the fear of failure. It also removes any need for consistency
or narrowing one's style of painting. (I enjoy using the mouth atomizer, gouache, yupo, and traditional
watercolor - why give up any of it?!)
I hope you have a happy Valentine's Day. And that you love
yourself as much as you love others.

Inspiration is highly overrated. If you sit around and wait for the clouds
to part, it's not liable to ever happen. More often than not work is salvation. ::: Chuck Close
