We messed up!
Because the “Art Show” is quarterly the deadline for the winter art show is not until the
END OF MARCH .... Jim has been getting together some very nice product prizes. AND don’t forget,
you can request a constructive critique whether you place or not. It’s all a great learning
experience.

Why study is a good thing!

I’ve always heard that it’s good to read about art and artists and see
their work but never really knew exactly why. While John Salminen, AWS DF NWS, an avid reader, was here,
he gave me the reason. John said that you cannot think about anything of which you are unaware, and you
need to have the words in your vocabulary to be able to contemplate the issues in your own work. For
example, knowing the principles of design help us see how others use them in their work. Similarly,
knowing the styles and color combinations used in other cultures opens that door to us.
Isn’t
it amazing how art encourages us to better know ourselves and in doing so we also fi nd it useful to
learn about others!
