 John Salminen
Watercolor, Mixed Media, and Design
John Salminen teaches
Master Classes in design and watercolor
painting. Workshops are chosen to be part of the MASTER'S
SERIES based on their exceptionally high design and thinking content.
John emphasizes strong design in his paintings. He
manipulates color and value, even in his complex city-scapes, to improve the
image. When needing to push an area back or add additional value to a detailed
dark area, he prefers to spray the area with color using a mouth
atomizer rather that run a wash.[continued…]
In John Salminen's watercolor instruction DVD workshop, A
Designed Approach to Abstraction, John explains each step, reveals
his composition and problem solving strategies, and shows how he uses the
design principles of dominance, texture, linkage, and repetition to bring
unity to the painting. With this watercolor video, you will learn how to
paint with clear design principles as well as learn John's techniques,
including use of the mouth atomizer. John's
in-depth design analysis applies to all art media. This watercolor
instruction video from Creative Catalyst Productions has been
called a college design class in a box! John's watercolor lessons begin
with simple objects to suggest shapes and line. He then teaches his sequence
of steps to paint intriguing and unpredictable effects while using core
design principles to create a cohesive captivating painting.
In John's DVD Urban Landscape in Watercolor,
John designs and composes from the moment he takes his reference photos. In
this workshop, John hits the streets of New York to gather candid reference
shots. He returns to the studio to teach his simplified system for accurate
drawing. The workshop includes exercises in perspective drawing and extensive
discussions of design. You'll capture the energy and nuance of city streets
in Urban Landscape in Watercolor.
