This two disk DVD demonstrates Bob’s Painterly Approach
to oil painting in the studio and on location. The DVDs contain 1 Studio and
2 Plein Air demonstrations.
The first demonstration is painted in the studio using a photo
reference, as Bob details his process step-by-step from developing the compositional
shapes through the color and value relationship, establishing the “extremes” and
the finishing touches. The entire Painterly Approach is covered.
Demonstration two is painted on location and deals with the
green landscape. As he paints, Bob explains using a color wheel, and how to
add color variety to an otherwise monochromatic green landscape.
Demonstration three is a quickly painted small outdoor study.
The emphasis here is capturing the essence of the scene without the thoughts
of trying to create a gallery ready painting. Creating, learn, and experience
the joy of painting.
You will learn to identify abstract patterns, the relationships between
shapes and how to evoke an emotional response from your paintings. You will
discover what the painterly approach is and how to define an object by planes
of color and value rather than by line. The focus is placed on the abstract
pattern rather than on actual objects, on relationships between shapes rather
than on detail, and on provoking an emotional response rather than absolute
realism.
The instruction focuses on seeing shapes and values — a concept that
is used by many successful artists but is rarely taught. The teachings here
are broad and can be applied to any medium, since they relate to expression
and emotion in painting. Artists looking to improve the way they visualize
their art - to see in a more holistic manner — will find here the techniques
to achieve this goal.
Plus bonus material is also included — Bob explains the
procedures to follow for “The Painterly Approach.”
