Instruction Video / DVD Series Contents:

Vol. 1: Introduction & Interview:
Cheng-Khee Chee Art Instructional Video -

Cheng-Khee Chee has dedicated his life to the excellent expression of the synthesis between his inner vision and outer world, which he feels is the source of ART. In tape one, Chee discusses his Taoist philosophy and how it has influenced the development of his five distinctive styles (the subjects of tapes two through six) each suited to most effortlessly express Chee’s feelings towards each particular subject.

The “underpinnings” of all his techniques reside in his philosophy. Volume one includes Chee describing his artistic principles and collecting resource materials (“It’s like having money in the bank!”). He describes each of his watercolor styles and presents beautiful examples of each. Cheng-Khee discusses the responsibilities of being a teacher; consistency; personal goals; mentors; criteria for judging; handling rejection, and so very much more!

Cheng-Khee Chee Art Instructional DVD
Cheng-Khee Chee demonstrates the method he uses for painting rocks and mountainscapes. He uses a broad brush charged with color, swept over a gel-medium-coated surface. The paint is immediately repelled, creating tensions and other unexpected and exciting textural effects resembling rocks and mountains.

Vol. 5: Crinkling Technique with Oriental Paper
Cheng-Khee Chee Art Instructional DVD
Cheng-Khee Chee uses this method for painting tree forms and other highly textured subjects. You will see how Chee uses crinkled wet paper, ink and color to create a garden painting.

Vol. 6: Marblizing Technique and Monoprinting
Cheng-Khee Chee Art Instructional DVD
In this art instruction video, Cheng-Khee Chee shows how the ink marbleizing technique creates images suggesting spiritual, visionary and dreamlike worlds. This technique, involving floating ink on water, originated in ancient China and was also practiced by Shinto priests in Japan as a sacred art practice. The process invariably suggests the images of moving clouds and water interlocking with mountains and rocks.

In the second part of Vol. 6 Cheng-Khee Chee presents his Monoprinting Plus Painting technique which involves splashing ink and watercolor on a piece of white enameled masonite, guiding the colors to run and mix in the desired way and transferring the image to a sheet of absorbent rice paper. After drying the paper a painting is developed from the background texture.
