Watercolor with Barbara Nechis
Nature is a prevailing theme in Nechis's work — floral paintings, richly colored landscapes, and abstracts that evoke the moods of nature. Barbara's technical demonstrations illustrate how the artist achieves the poetic effects in watercolor.
Departing from the well-trodden path and an instructional style of many teachers who pass along rules and formulas, Barbara builds upon the understanding that paint and water behave unpredictably. The artist needs to take a flexible and risk-taking approach to painting, to have fun, and to be intuitive and inventive.
In this watercolor instructional video, Barbara inspires her readers to rely
upon their inner source of artistic ideas. At the same time, she explains step-by-step
the specific ways familiar watercolor techniques can be pushed in fresh new
directions.
The video covers the creative process itself, techniques such as glazing and painting wet into wet, ways to be inventive in designing a painting, and how to absorb the natural environment into your work, by painting on location, and by using photography as an aid.
She teaches your to know your paint properties — that a transparent will move fast on wet paper vs. opaques (like ceruleon or naples) which mostly stay put. She show how to control and use the dreaded crawl-backs as flower edges or waterfalls! Load your brush with several colors of same hue (all blues, for example) and you'll have some of both transp. & opaque at one time, you'll be able to have some control over where they travel on the wet paper.
Creative Catalyst Productions filmed this new video with Barbara Nechis in
