Commanding Color by Sue Archer

In Sue Archer's new CCP Videos instructional DVD, the lessons combine live demonstrations with practical examples from Sue’s personal gallery. Each concept comes in handy during the pineapple demonstration. She flows complementary colors into pre wet paper to create subtle transitions.

Sue boosts your artistic confidence with a series of lessons on pigment quality, design principles, and color theory culminating in a glowing still life of a pineapple. You’ll learn to control value and contrast, harness the powerful white of your paper, design negative space, and energize your subjects with complementary colors.

You'll learn to cover large areas with transparent darks and add texture as you work. You’ll master your palette and paint with confidence in Commanding Color with Sue Archer.

Worth every penny!  -  by Linda Olsen from Delaware

Commanding Color by Sue Archer is one of those "must have" programs for the artist who paints with watercolor. I wanted this DVD to learn how she does those luscious dark backgrounds - and I did learn that. But I also gathered more information and tips here by both listening and watching. This an outstanding DVD for anyone who paints with watercolor and desires a more brilliant result.

I've learned more from viewing and reviewing it than I dreamed was possible.  -  by Dr. Karen Titus from Plantation, FL

I have admired your watercolours since the moment I first saw you in a gold coast meeting a couple of years ago. I finally met you at this year's FWS in Delray and bought your DVD, "Commanding Colour."

I've learned more from viewing and reviewing it than I dreamed was possible. I began painting 2 1/2 years ago after I retired from college teaching. I always could draw and did lots of pen and inks. I was 'terrified' of colour. I took my first watercolour classes with Larry Denicke (1 yr) and am presently learning from Diane Nance (past 1 1/2 yrs). However, the information on your dvd and the way you present it has opened up a new world of painting for me. I am enrolled in your workshop in January and am so looking forward to learning even more from you. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much.

It was excellent. I would recommend it to anyone.  -  by M. Baynes from Lake Wales, FL

First, let me tell you, I am an oil painter, and would not normally sit down to watch a video on watercolor.

Since I had met Sue sometime in the past, and seen her very strong work. I assumed her video must be as good as her work, so the idea of watching it intrigued me.

I thought the video was excellent. Really excellent.

Most videos are just a little more than a demonstration. Sue’s video was packed full of very important technical information. I loved the way she explained her use of color, her use of grays, and her really rich darks, in such a way, that a beginner could easily understand it, and an advanced painter would enjoy the excellent review, and think to themselves: “Oh, yes, I had forgotten that.” This video is definitely very well suited for the both the beginner as well as the advanced painter.

Together, you have produced a video that was a treat to watch. I learned a lot. It was excellent. I would recommend it to anyone.

Did I use the word “excellent” to many times? That’s because it was excellent.
