Throughly Enjoyed - by Joan W. from New Jersey

|
Dear Urania, I had signed up for your workshop in PA.,in Sept. Unfortunately there were not enough that signed up for the workshop. I am deeply disappointed that it was cancelled. I purchased your DVD. I throughly enjoyed how you showed your tecniques and explained why you did thru the whole painting. I tried your tecnique of alcohol and pastel for the background of your still life. And your plein-air of Monet's water lilies is great. I was priviledged to visit Gerveney a few years ago. I tried to paint in pastel the lilies early in my painting in pastel. I learned from your demostraton of the lilies and weeping willow trees. I will try this again in my studio after the good weather stops. At present I am taking the opportunity of the great weather we are having to paint plien-air small paintings to enlarge in my studio. I was in a dry period - no inspiration until I purchased your DVD. Hopefully you will have a workshop in the East in the near future. Thank you again.

perfect for the new pastel artist - by Carole Katchen from Hot Springs, AR
|
Urania Christy Tarbet's gentle, encouraging style of teaching is perfect for the new pastel artist who is somewhat intimidated by the medium. What materials do you need? How do you set them up? How do you make the first strokes of your painting? She covers these questions and more.
I particularly liked the way she broke her painting down into large value shapes, establishing a strong foundation for the composition. This is such an important concept and one that many beginners don't understand.
At every step of the painting she shares wonderful tips on how and where to apply strokes of color. She shows how important it is to continually assess the painting and she demonstrates how pastel lends itself to making changes throughout the process.
